Titanium and aluminum, Dainese and the concept of sliding as protection

    By DemoneRosso | 10 February 2021 | 1 min

Nico Cereghini is a former Italian rider and journalist who has always been committed to motorcycle safety. A familiar face on Italian TV, as race commentator and motorcycle test rider he led his own campaign to raise awareness amongst riders regarding protection and safety on the road. Nico is best known by fans young and old for his famous motto: “wear your helmet securely fastened on your head, switch your lights on even in daylight, and always ride safely!”

Nico Cereghini explains why metal protectors on the outside of Dainese suits and sports jackets are so popular. Unlike plastic, titanium and aluminum are able to support the rider if they slide following a fall, preventing the material from rubbing against the asphalt and causing jolts or dangerous rotation or spraining of joints. Metal does not deteriorate in the high temperatures generated by friction against the asphalt, while plastic tends to melt and no longer fulfil its role. In the pursuit of perfection, no detail can be left to chance.
